Job description:

My client is looking for a highly-motivated software engineer/developer with a passion for space. This person will be a hands-on contributor to our NASA James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) flight dynamics development team producing applications and infrastructure for the mission's flight dynamics ground system. The individual will join an existing organization committed to exceeding the expectations of our Customer, taking care of the Team, adding Company value, and Self growth.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Develop Java applications using the NetBeans IDE that will help to fly the JWST satellite
  • Develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that interact with databases
  • Participate in the entire software development life cycle including: requirements definition, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance
  • Contribute to solving complex technical problems, and perform trade-off analyses of feasible options
  • Interact with an inter-disciplinary team of aerospace engineers, systems engineers, and systems administrators
  • Clearly and concisely communicate technical details
  • Investigate and identify new development techniques
  • Create and update software systems documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in software analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation
  • Experience with Java and JavaFX development
  • Experience with GUI development
  • Experience interfacing with databases
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Ability to work both independently without supervision and as part of a team
  • U.S Citizenship
Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with spacecraft flight dynamics operations or ground systems
  • Familiarity with development of satellite ground systems and/or space surveillance systems
  • Demonstrated experience with non-relational database technology, specifically MongoDB
