Position Overview: 

This position will require the technical expertise as a Linux systems administrator for the team that operates and administers Linux servers and services. Technologies specifically include open-source and commercial distributions of Splunk and Nagios monitoring systems, working under direction of the team lead, which falls within the Operational Analytics department.  This position is responsible for cluster design, development, integration, as well as enhancements to, and support management of, the Splunk and Nagios monitoring tools.  Other tasks as required.

Mandatory Skills: 
  • A strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies and policies.
  •  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the IT organization, project and application development teams, management and business personnel.
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • Experience with common information security management frameworks, such as International Standards Organization (ISO) 2700x, the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) frameworks.
  • Familiarity with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).
  • Strong project management skills and experience in creating and managing project plans, including budgetary and resource allocation.
  •  Proficiency in performing risk, business impact, control and vulnerability assessments, and in defining treatment strategies.
  • Ability to work within a hybrid development, engineering, and support team.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to think intuitively and analytically to break down and resolve problems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow high-level policies and guidelines and apply those guidelines to daily responsibilities.

  • Define the business requirements for the organization's next generation of operational analytics capabilities, which involves working with internal and external customers, and end-users to develop specifications for the development and implementation of analytics and dashboards.
  • Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of Splunk and Nagios cluster infrastructures in a highly-available fault-tolerant configuration.
  • Responsible for defining and deploying standardized Splunk and Nagios agent configurations across a variety of server and application platforms.
  •  Troubleshoot Splunk and Nagios servers, and agent problems and issues.
  • Assist internal users of Splunk in designing and maintaining production-quality dashboards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.​
